The lighting requirements are basically very simple:

  • Two independent (with distinct power sources) front lights and two independent (with distinct power sources) rear lights must be available for use (i.e. attached to the bicycle or carried)
  • One of each front or rear light must be fixed to the bicycle or to a secure accessory (e.g. a rack or handlebar, stays, fork,..).
At night or at times of low visibility at least one front light and one rear light must be switched on.
  • The front light must have a beam white in color and clearly visible from a distance of at least 120 meters to oncoming traffic. The front lightning system must be able to illuminate the road at least 20 meters ahead of the bicycle.
  • The rear light must be red in color and clearly visible from a distance of at least 120 meters. The flashing mode cannot be used.

One power source can power a front and a rear light.

We strongly recommend bringing a headlamp as you will ride on roads without street light.

On PAT 1200 bike check your lights will be checked.
